Reply-To: "riangie3" Date: Sun, 3 Apr 2005 14:13:05 -0400 (Eastern Daylight Time) Hey All, I have a sharp MD-MS 702 that has a bit of an attitude lately and I'm about to go on tour with it soon so..Any advise is lovely! The last time I recorded a small talk the thing didn't pick up any sound - It recorded 60 minutes of nothingness..(mic was in the right hole - all the way in..) Ok.... My battery (the plug in the wall to charge type - not like AA's) Never seems to charge - I'll have it plugged in for DAYS, MONTHS and when it's show time it has one bar and slowly drains to nothing.. Do I need a new one? Where can I get one? God help me - I got a TOC error while taping a show the last time as well.. This was what started happening to my last mini disk and I had to just get rid of it because it happened non stop after the first time.. What's the word on this? Thank you all for your advise! There are such nice people on this list! Always willing to help!! Big Hugs, -Angel ------------------------------ From: Alex Kim Subject: Metal Detectors Date: Sun, 3 Apr 2005 11:13:40 -0700 (PDT) Metal detectors: I've only been wanded when I go to the House of Blues...and I hear they do that at every House of Blues? The one time I tried to bring in a recorder (my D7), it set it off instantly. Not sure of the metal content but it could have been from the battery pack (4 AAs). Luckily I had my blackberry in my pocket right next to it...I took it out and they let me pass. As for tricks involving headphones and prerecorded tapes...good idea and will possibly work...but in my past experience, the moment security finds a portable recorder of any kind (they'll ask you or someone else if they're not sure - they always look for the "red" button) they tend to search a bit more thoroughly and will often make you bring it to coat check to check in for the duration of the show if they have one - whether or not it was your intention to record. This happened to me at the Fillmore in San Fran once and I've seen it happen at other venues with other people in the line in front of me. But most of the time, if you have it down your pants or something similar, you have to look really really suspicious for them to actually pat you there. I've noticed most of these security guys just don't care (meaning they're not working for the airport or anything in the guise of national security) as long as you don't make it obvious, like in your jacket pocket or in your handbag or visably carrying it, etc. Just from my experiences from venues in Southern and Northern CA. Wait, scratch that...except the Hollywood Palladium...really tough there...they must get bonuses or something. --- Digestifier wrote: > DAT-heads Digest #440, Volume #7 > Sun, 3 Apr 05 12:50:01 EDT > > Contents: > FS: 853 + USBPre Rig ("Mike Zodun") > metal detectors (sec1968@ezl.com) > ISO Server to host show ("Charlie Miller") > Batteries For Sale ("Charlie Miller") > csb batt box and metal detectors (avps) > Batteries Sold ("Charlie Miller") > ISO: Alison Krauss and Union Station ("George > Rue") > metal detectors ("DBC") > getting something like a d7 or d8 past security > (shane b) > sir richard bishop solo [from "sun city girls"] > (shane b) > Re: TASCAM DA-20 recorder, excl condition ("Dennis > Rooks") > metal detectors (Ryan Gear) > Joe Satriani April Dates (Jeff Shirkey) > ISO: Jane's Addiction or Radiohead DAT trades > (Bill Graham) > > ============================================================================ > > From: "Mike Zodun" > Subject: FS: 853 + USBPre Rig > Reply-to: > Date: Sat, 02 Apr 2005 12:18:18 -0500 > > I have the following rig for sale. Date: Sun, 03 Apr 2005 15:44:52 -0400 In my experience, if they're wanding, you're more likely to get your gear in by wearing both a belt and button-fly jeans. The extra metal in the button fly will defintely set off the wand and you have a ready excuse as to why it set it off. Don't plan on this working at the airport, however, because they WILL investigate if the wand goes off. Do not count on your gear not setting off the detector. If they're wanding correctly, it will set it off. Then again, at shows they often do it half-assed. ------------------------------ From: "Neil Sturtevant" Subject: stealthing and metal detectors Reply-To: Date: Sun, 3 Apr 2005 22:49:50 -0700 i stealth with an M1 and i usually have to crotch it in. i usually carry a fanny pack stuffed with keys and all sorts of metal crap over my crotch to distract them. once or twice when busted w/o the fanny pack, they have asked when they got a hit on my crotch and i tell them i am pierced "down there". that backs them off quick usually, just tell them you've got a "Prince Albert" Neil Sturtevant "shadowboxing the apocalypse, wandering the land" -- Internal Virus Database is out-of-date.
