confused, I thought the controls and readouts were only accessible/viewable

Hello board, as the MD theme is getting a  
repsonse Im taking a quick shot....  need some info
regarding it.  
Long way ago  my rig was a Sony MD R-50 and a ECM 717
then switched to a M1 and OKMII//R
Now I need to tape some stuff with my R50 that is not
needed to be on DAT, but never ever used along with
the OKMII/R 
Someone know the Settings for OKMII/R>R-50
Use LINE IN or MIC? 
A3 box settings?
Automatic or Manual recording?
Settings on the R50?
