About a year ago, he was OK with tapers using mics but he didn't want people
taping from the board.

I've taped him twice. The first time "No board access, mics only"=20
and No video. The second time he allowed board access. Keep in mind
that his latest recording is a collection of Solo Concert Recordings,
so that may change things.
Good Luck,
Pat

Wondered if anyone had any other info on the Mcdowell
mnt music fest in Scottsdale, AZ. On their website it
says no audio recordings allowed. Is that the most up
to date answer on that issue. Seems like all the
artists would be taper friendly. Except for maybe Tony
Furtado.
But then maybe that's why the answer is no.
Thanks
Tom

For anyone who's been holding off buying a DVD recorder, or is
ready for their second one, I highly recommend the Pioneer DVR-
520H just reduced to $449 at the Good Guys chain on the west
coast. Elsewhere in the country, you should be able to find
internet sites at a similar price or get your local dealer to match it.
While I "grew up" on the Panasonic line of DVD recorders, after
testing this Pioneer model I found many significant advantages:
demonstrably better picture quality, more flexible editing, and a
remote control that is easier on the fingers (softer buttons).
Basically, this machine allows you to record video on the Hard
Disk, edit the video, and then transfer to DVD-R without generation
loss. Inputs include firewire for a miniDV camera, as well as S-
Video, Video, and RF (antenna/cable).
The 8X DVD writer can fill a whole DVD in under 10 minutes. This
model also has a feature to copy finished DVDs, by copying the
DVD to the hard disk and back. (Of course, this does not work for
copy-protected DVDs). You can even make multiple copies at
about 8 minutes per copy!
Another very nice feature is the ability to play *any* DVD at 1.5X
speed, without making the sound pitch higher (it "time-
compresses" the sound). This includes things you record yourself
and also store-bought DVDs. Watch a 30 minute show in under 15
minutes after cutting out the commercials (or skipping them).
Some of you will remember when the "pro" Pioneer CD recorder
cost $1600. To move from CDs to DVDs, add a hard disk and
editing, and drop the price by $1150, is quite amazing!
Right now, this is *the* video recorder to buy.
