There's also a new studio release called Present, a 2 disc set composed of 6 proper studio tracks, and a secod disc of improvisational pieces, which appears to be making quite a stir. Go here for more information: http://www.vandergraafgenerator.co.uk/ Please contact me if you have a copy of the 5/6/2005 show to trade, or if you will be getting any of the other reunion gigs that are confirmed. http://home.att.net/~meurglys3/ Thanks, Tom ------------------------------ From: "Len Moskowitz" Subject: Re: rig update: DPA 4061 or other...? We've tried essentially all of the miniature mics available today, and in our opinion, there is no better sounding miniature microphone available in the world. > By the way is there a real difference between DPA 4601 > + MPS 6030 and Core Sound's HEB (4061 + Core Sound > battery)? Any two 4061s taken randomly off the shelf can differ by as much as 4 dB in frequency response and by as much as 6 dB in sensitivity. They almos tnever vary as much as the specs allow, but total variations of two or three dB are very common. So while you could get lucky simply buying two mics, don't expect them to be well matched. We match the capsules used in our HEBs to within +/- 1 dB. The MPS6030 uses electrolytic capacitors and uses diode clamps. Our battery box uses only the highest quality metallized film capacitors and does not use an diode clamps. The MPS6030 is made of plastic and does not offer a switchable bass roll-off filter. Our HEB battery box is made of cast aluminum, is extremely rugged, and also offers an optional switchable bass roll-off filter. > I noticed that the DPA's 4061 has good drums and voice > in comparison to many many mics (that's what I like), > but it seems to lack the trebles a little bit (cymbals > notably...)...I can't be sure, I don't have many > "DPA-made" recordings, but that's it for the few ones > I have. With the 4060s, if you're hearing a lack of cymbals, then that's what it sounded like during the recording. Either that, or there was something blocking the line of sight between the sound source and the microphones, absorbing the high frequencies. Ecocharge right angle plug > 4-pin XLR battery cable for a D8 $15 Oade Active Cable - The grey plug end of the active cable has a small strip of clear tape on it to keep the housing closed but it doesn't affect the functioning. I used it as recently as two weeks ago and never had a problem with it. $75 10 foot pair of Canare Star Quad Male RCA > Male RCA cables $35 3 foot pair of Audio Magic Xstream Female XLR > Male RCA cables $50 I'm looking for a Sonicase Pro as well as a 6v Oade battery if anyone's looking to do some trading. Usually it happens when an input device has an incompatibility with your sound card. You can correct DC offset in most higher-end audio software (Sound Forge, Wavelab) and probably some free programs too. Not sure about CD Wav. You'll want to correct any DC offset BEFORE you do any other editing to the sound files. I heard a Bruce Hornsby show recorded with these mics and was absolutely stunned by their quality. I played it back to my girlfriend and she was surprised to find out that it was indeed an audience recording and not an SBD+AUD mix (using the correct terminolgy :-) ). I am thinking about purchasing a pair for my rig (it is slowly coming together...I hope to be taping in less than a year). Looking for some input from some more experienced tapers. http://earthworksaudio.com/mics.html -Peace Ben ------------------------------ From: Tim Sanabria Subject: Sony PCM-M1 Won't Open Date: Fri, 13 May 2005 18:01:40 -0700 (PDT) After about 2 years since it's last use, I went to use my M1 last night and found that the tape door would not open for me to put a new blank in. When I slide the open button, it makes the noise it always has, but the door never comes open. I'm assuming I'm going to have to send it in for service. Does anybody have any suggestions or has anybody had similar problem? I think I used to have Pro Digital (Paul was the name, I think?) do all my cleanings but I no longer have the contact info. Thanks! T.I.M. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Read only the mail you want - Yahoo! Looking for similar material in trade, feel free to send your list, and I will provide more details.
