Brought second hand 1 year ago, was working perfectly until it started saying "DEW" every single time it was turned on. Now the lid won't close (need some screws tightened somewhere to fix). In reasonable condition, but not in working order. Email me for photos and more details. $50US. 2) I am selling my MASTER DAT of Green Day live in Auckland, New Zealand 5/3/05. CSC>Sony TCD-D8. Unreleased recording, I haven't given it to anyone. Good recording. Email for sound samples. Selling because I am getting out of the game and I don't have time to convert it fully and trade it. $Offers. Thanks Karl ------------------------------ From: "Wayne Brissette" Subject: Re: QTC-1 Mics Date: Sun, 15 May 2005 07:33:50 -0500 >From: Benjamin Scott-Killian >Subject: Earthworks QTC1 >Date: Fri, 13 May 2005 17:06:49 -0400 > >Howdy folks- >Has anybody heard anything good or bad about the Earthworks QTC1 >microphones? I heard a Bruce Hornsby show recorded with these mics and >was absolutely stunned by their quality. Ben: That's my recording, and I've been using the QTC-1 mics for 3 years now (maybe only 2 ... time flys when you're having fun). These mics are awesome, but you have to be VERY careful with these mics. If you notice almost all my recordings are done with a mix of 3 or 4 microphones. The main mics being my EW SR-77 mics. The QTC-1 (as well as every other omni microphone) woks great at close range or in quiet environments like acoustical or classical music. However, for rock shows, they aren't that great. If I gave you a copy of that show with just the QTC-1 mic source, you would notice that certain instruments really stand out as well as a lot of the chatter from the audience around those mics --- they were placed in the balcony for this show. Meanwhile, other things you would notice due to where the mics were, is that they sound distant. By that I mean you can tell these were back a bit. These are great mics and used extensively for classical recordings and acoustical instrumentation, their clarity and lack of coloration is second to none. If you did a survey of classical engineers I think you find that they either own the Earthworks QTC-1 mics or the DPA 4006 mics for recording. I use these at louder shows to fill-in the bottom end of the SR-77's, since that's not the strong point of the SR-77 mics (there is a pretty steep drop off at 100 kHz which affects the amount of bottom end you have in you recordings). By adding the QTC-1 mics you also get that "surround" sound since you're picking up audio from 360 degrees, which can add a lot to a recording. > I am thinking about purchasing a pair for my rig (it is slowly >coming together...I hope to be taping in less than a year). Looking for >some input from some more experienced tapers. Unless you plan to run a mix of of microphones (in which case you need either a mixer or a multi-track recorder), I would not recommend just a set of any omni microphones. But, if you're looking to add a omni to your bag, then it's tough to beat the QTC-1. However, they aren't cheap! A matched pair will set you back over $2000. Feel free to drop my an email if you have any additional questions. I can also put together a couple of samples of just the QTC-1 mics for you if you want (including a sample of the Hornsby show since it was recorded on the Zaxcom Deva IV multi-track recorder).
