Hey Phila. Heads,
I plan to attend and hopefully record this gig and have never been to this venue before. Does anybody know the lay of the land, and the houses attitude towards taping? Also does the band have any official taping policy? Thanks for any advice, tips, etc.

Looking for someone near the Royal Festival Hall in London to tape the
Meltdown Festival. Looks like a good lineup and I'll be happy to
offer whatever help I can from my continent.

Feat. Lenny Kaye, Johnny Marr, Robyn Hitchcock, Roy Harper, Bert
Jansch, Robin and Bina Williamson, Patti Smith and more. An evening
dedicated to the best of folk music from both the US and UK and
featuring a huge line up of acts performing their own take on the
genre.
Lenny Kaye is best known as the guitarist from the Patti Smith Band
but as a result his influence as artist, producer and critic is often
overlooked. He has worked with Patti since the early 70's but has
recorded his own work with The Lenny Kaye Connection and produced
albums by Suzanne Vega, Kristin Hersh and Throwing Muses.
Johnny Marr was the musical magic behind The Smiths before the groups
acrimonious split. Marr has continued to collaborate with major
artists including Talking Heads, Bernard Sumner and The The.
Robyn Hitchcock is one of England's greatest singer-songwriters who
began his musical life in the punk era but whose heart lies firmly in
English Folk and one of the greatest examples of the UK tradition will
be on hand in the form of Bert Jansch.
Roy Harper has amassed more than thirty albums of original material in
his recording career. He has many credits, including recording with
members of Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and with Kate Bush, among others.
He performed at the legendary first Hyde Park Free Concert and was one
of the leading lights, along with Bert Jansch, Paul Simon and Davy
Graham, of the London Folk Scene of the mid-Sixties. Roy is a social
commentator and poet who has swum against the tide more times than
not. He has won European awards for his music, and continues to be
active in performance. He has just received this years 'Mojo Hero'
award from MOJO magazine.
Jansch's influence on the contemporary scene is immense but his skill
has also seen him name checked by major names in the Rock world
including Neil Young and Jimmy Page.

Some Chicago area DATheads might find this interesting. If I
was going to be in town I'd definitely go. Even if you're not
interested in this one, get on their mailing list. Previous
meetings have included tours of recording studios and radio
studios, and an interesting demonstration and discussion of
binaural mics and miking.
