Since the discussion has moved from ZA2 to WT9624, I will throw
in my 2-cents.
I love the WT9624, especially the analog outputs. Getting high-
quality, noise-free audio out of your computer is ESSENTIAL to
properly editing/sweetening/remastering of music. I have the
WT9624 analog output set to "+4 level" (a software adjustment)
rather than -10, even though I'm feeding a normal home stereo,
because this gives me another 14dB (approx) of s/n over any
switching noise made by my P/C.
I formerly used the card in a computer with a PCI video card, and
there were some glitches. The manufacturer does not recommend
this (after the fact). In my new computer, with an AGP video card
(ie, not on the same bus as the Waveterminal card), the card
works continuously.
Regarding the question of "channel swapping." I have also noticed
that audio imported from the WT9624 into Cool Edit Pro sometimes
has the channels reversed. The analog playback from the WT
control panel is correct but the audio imported into Cool Edit is
reversed.
The good news is, it's either reversed or it's not; it doesn't "flip" in
the middle of a session! So if correct L/R is important to the
recording, I look for one particular spot in the recording where the
channels are really obvious, and compare that between the original
and the imported data. If your channels are reversed, you can
correct this with Cool Edit Pro using
"Transform>Amplitude>Channel Mixer" and choose "Swap Left &
Right" from the presets.
Also, I've found the card's tech support, from www.egosys.net to be
quite good, especially for a far-east company. While they never
actually fixed any of my problems (oh well) at least they were very
responsive.
Unfortunately, it appears the WT9624 is a discontinued product,
and none of the current PCI (card-based) models appear to have a
digital input, so it looks like Ebay or Newsgroup if you want to
acquire this card.
On the other hand, they do make a USB-based product called the
Waverterminal U24 which supports optical and coaxial in & out
(and also pass-through conversion), as well as super-quality analog
inputs and outputs. Yahoo Shopper found this device for $159. I
have not tested it. Egosys also recommends using this device to
make live recordings to a laptop, although I believe you would need
an external mixer, mic pre-amp, or hot mikes such as CSBs (and
this plus a laptop would be a pretty large rig for CSBs!)

I'm planning to record on Monday June 20th at the Beacon Theater. My
preference is to record from 1st row loge with mikes mounted on the ledge if
taping is allowed. Otherwise, I'm ok with stealthing from the orchestra.
Any feedback from prior shows?

Barry Glassberg

I am getting into the realm of trading Pink Floyd DAT's. I have only two so
far to offer in trade, but I do have a modest amount of PF shows in
lossless SHN or FLAC. If anyone is interested, contact me for a list.
