Same gig that was broadcast on the radio! (San Diego '98) Pretty much used the same measures sometimes employed to keep my deck safe from flying beer. It was in a plastic baggy (not zipped) in my fanny pack zipped almost all the way. The mics went up my shirt into my hat. No problems there. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! But I went to walmart first (even though I hate walmart) and picked up an umbrella that was made to attach to a baby stroller (<$10). They typically have a clamp instead of a handle. Then I just clamped it to my stand so it covered the mics (also used my windscreens). I kept all the other eq in a laptop case that was placed inside a hefty trash bag that has the cord at the top that closes the bag. Once I had my levels set I just closed the bag and let everything run. Worked well for me. As a side note my stealh mics are Sonic Studios DSMs which are pretty much fully waterproof so if you get caught in the rain no worries. :-} Stay Kind, Dana ------------------------------ From: "Benjamin Gart" Subject: RE: XM radio - how does it compare to FM? Date: Wed, 06 Jul 2005 15:32:08 -0500 I've had XM for a couple of years now. I did enjoy it much more in the first year, but I'm not sure what's going on with the company. I have been increasingly disappointed with XM's programming and quality. It seems like new mgmt came in and has cut their budget or something. So many of the stations I liked are gone (unless you have the online deal too...which I have now...Special X was great). But it can be so hard to catch up with the programs/specials I like. And then there's the matter of 'celeb' djs...Sirius is going all-out with this, and XM? They get that Bob-so-and-so from NPR/PBS...I could see Sirius getting in trouble with spending too much and taking those chances on the 'celebs' though. It's such a tough one. I also don't like FM Radio at all...especially the US' radio. At least in Europe, they have concerts regularly on the radio...and not just from the big bands (how many Euro FM Cramps shows are there compared to US Cramps shows??). But, it comes down to knowing that someone out there is doing something to be a pain in the ass to ClearChannel and those conglomerates...it does make me feel rather good knowing that XM and Sirius are out there for real music fans. And that crap about 'quality'...let's not forget cds are still not as good as vinyl. Radio was/is never meant to be the 'Be-All-End-All' of sound quality. It's a very socialized thing, and that's what's great about any radio (too bad satellite radio does charge, though...that's another issue). It's nice being able to choose being able to listen to whichever decade of RnR you want or whichever type of jazz, etc., you want. The choices make a huge difference for me. There's my 2-cents... ------------------------------ From: "Jeff Franzreb" Subject: Re: Taping in the Rain Date: Wed, 6 Jul 2005 16:51:45 -0400 Yea, it's doable. Just a little pain. Carry a rain poncho and even if you wear that, the sound will still make it to your mics if you do a hat mount. This way you can cover the mics and keep them dry from the rain. You may also want to toss on a hooded sweatshirt OVER the poncho or something cloth over your head. I have a tape where you hear the rain drops and if I had a hoodie or something, that could have been avoided. For my fanny pack, I kept a trash bag handy that I'd drape over that once my levels were set or during set breaks. I'd say the toughest was to look into the bag to get levels set and to a point where you don't need to adjust during the show. Maybe set the a little lower than normal to avoid needing to do this mid-set. I think that covers it all. Cheers, Jeff ____________________ "Don't trust anyone under 14,000 feet." Date: Wed, 6 Jul 2005 16:34:16 -0700 i havent used my dat much in the past year. i got it about 2 years ago. it has around 30 hours of usage and is in really good condition. i will also include Dynamic Audio Binaural mics (these are similar to Core Sound Binaurals) and were made by a former member of the Smashing Pumpkins taping community, Zach Payne. they really are good mics which i think anyone who used them can attest to. the mics also come with the battery box that has the bass roll off and the flat feature. (the box takes a 9v battery) i also have a cloth case which houses everything, a leather case for the DAT itself, rechargable battery charger (no batteries, takes standard AA's), AC outlet adapter as well as a few blank dat tapes. let me know if you are interested. price is negotiable but i am looking to move it by mid august. if you are interested PM me or email. AManassero AT Gmail DOT come pictures of the stuff is available on request. i would rather sell it here because ebay can be a pain. I do have very good ebay feedback which is also available on request. Is this a matrix "on the fly" with the Hammerfall box, or a post concert mixdown? The exact specs would be great :) Sorry if this is not the correct forum but all email addy's for them are no longer working, and I figured either one of those guys still receives the DAT Heads email. Date: Thu, 07 Jul 2005 04:02:55 -0400 Hello All, Just wondering if anyone will be taping Sunday afternoon at Summerfest. Burn Rome Burn plays at 12:30 on the US Cellular Connection Stage. If anyone's interested in taping, please let me know. They've just finished recording their first full-length album and this is their first "big" festival show. Here's the Summerfest link: http://www.summerfest.com/music/artist.php?id=3007 Here's the band's website (with a few audio clips): http://www.burnromeburn.com And here's a link to Joe's (guitar and vocals) blog about life and the band: http://www.burnblogburn.blogspot.com/ Joe's a good friend of mine from UW-Madison. It's a great band and they deserve the exposure. Again, if you're willing to tape, let me know and I may be able to get you in touch with Joe before Sunday. Even if you're not taping, go check them out. Hoping all is well. Chris in DC ------------------------------ From: "Gary Davis" Subject: Sorry about that... Reply-to: g@hoxnet.com Date: Thu, 7 Jul 2005 01:22:18 -0700 Anyone else try to tape 24 hours of XM Live yesterday? I managed to screw up about half the shows I was looking for ;-) If anyone else taped some of them, but maybe not all the ones they wanted, looking for trades -- currently only with other people who've taped XM live shows (yesterday or previously). My list gets yours - thanks! --Gary ------------------------------ From: "Bob S." Subject: the Brian JONESTOWN Massacre Date: Thu, 07 Jul 2005 13:02:53 -0400 after having watched the great documentary DiG! several times and purchasing several CDs, i thought to ask datheads if anyone has anything live from anton newcombe's brian jonestown massacre. i would think that a few of the clubs they performed in 96-97 or so may have recorded the show. i would not expect to find any audience recordings but if one exists, i would love to hear it. later material would be ok too but the band from the film is most interesting to me. close to 10 years of up front schoeps masters and plenty else to trade. thanks bob _________________________________________________________________ On the road to retirement? (This is Herring and Barraco's band) They now allow open recoring using mics, preamps, etc.. No SBD patches are allowed, nor is video. Also, there can be no commercial gain from these recordings, nor can any of their studio releases be traded or compiled. The website has now been updated, to reflect these changes, and an official email will be sent out tomorrow. Peace, Dave Here's the info from the official website. http://www.thedragonflys.net "The Dragonflys taping policy permits unrestricted audio taping by the audience at all shows; however, you will not be allowed to plug into the soundboard. So bring your gear and have a good time. Guest performances with other artists will be governed by that artist's taping policy. When performing at a festival or other event featuring multiple bands, that event's policy may override The Dragonflys´ customary taping policy. We are okay with live concert or song files being traded online but we are not okay with studio recordings being traded online. Selling of any taped live shows is prohibited. All taping must be for personal use only. And while trading is allowed, no money may ever be exchanged as part of a trade. We also don't allow officially released recordings of any kind (live or studio) in any format to be duplicated or traded in whole or in part. Nor do we allow the compiling of one or more officially released songs or the combining of official releases in whole or in part with other material. Stores or businesses may not duplicate or offer to duplicate any of The Dragonflys recordings for customers. Selling or otherwise providing media containing unreleased Dragonflys music for any price, including a loss, is also not okay. Videotaping, camcorders and flash photography are not allowed; however digital cameras are okay. Photos are not to be sold or used for commercial purposes. All of The Dragonflys performances and recordings are the exclusive property of The Dragonflys, all rights reserved. The rights to record The Dragonflys' performances set forth in this policy constitute an express, revocable license. We reserve the right to withdraw our sanction of recording, tape trading and/or non-commercial digital audio file transfers on a case-by-case basis or in general, as we deem necessary. No waiver of any copyright or trademark right is intended. Thank you for respecting the music, the fans and the venues." BWT...
