From: "Joe Mc." <energyi@mccabe.net> Subject: Surround Sound Recording Date: Thu, 21 Jul 2005 13:02:00 -0700 Dear dat-heads: Been DAT taping for 10 years. Now have an opportunity to install microphones permanently at a venue here in Northern California for surround sound taping. Is there a guide available that can line me out on all the specifics? Sorry, I searched the archives and didn't find anything that helped me get going. Here is what we have: Sound Board Patches 2 Nak-300's DA-20 at Sound Board D8 Laptops Cables, and power. CD & DVD recorders/players The thought is to install an omni at the center of the venue, hanging down from the ceiling, XLR over to the sound board where my DA-20 lies. Then mix the sound board, with possibly some X-Y microphones (but this may be redundant). The room is about 100 feet X 100 feet, with 15 or 20 foot ceiling. There is an elevated stage. The sound board is in the back right hand side of the venue. Any help on software, mixing, play back would be helpful. I've seen some of the surround sound shows on archive.org. What we are trying to do is tape it real time. Thanks in advance for any guidance. JoE(taper)

[SNIP] I've been through the same ordeal. I always wondered how I got on their list. I have a feeling it was through an affiliate of DATHEADS (not directly, of course. I'm sure Liam wouldn't sell namelists), but now I've got another datum to lend credence to my theory. How many other DATHEADS get spam from relix? I suspect that it is one of the places I've done business with; Terrapin Tapes comes to mind for some reason (it seems like I turned up a link to them when I first started investigating the spam, but it may have been another blank tape dealer). -- Wayne D. From: Seth Breidbart <sethb@panix.com> Subject: Re: Spam from Relix Date: Fri, 22 Jul 2005 00:32:19 -0400 (EDT) I haven't gotten spam from Relix. I've dealt with Terrapin Tapes, as well as most of the other dealers on the list. Many of them get their own email addresses (it's not like my supply of them will ever run short), so when somebody sells mine I know who did it. Seth

From: "tchapman livetrade" <tracychapman_live@hotmail.com> Subject: Where can I buy a DAT Recorder Date: Fri, 22 Jul 2005 12:03:57 +0100 hi all Again thanks for everybody's advice regarding what taping gear I should buy. I have re-decided and am now going to buy a DAT recorder...... I want to buy either; Sony PCM-M1 Portable Pro DAT Recorder (preferably this one - I like the idea of it adjusting to peaks of volume) or the Sony TCD-D100 Portable DAT Recorder I'm in the UK and can't find anywhere in the UK that sells these machines. Does anybody know where I can get one of the above machines from? Either from the USA (would have to ship internationally) or in the UK? I would prefer to buy a new machine but if there are any great 2nd hand ones I'd also consider one of those. The battery pack which I am going to purchase is the SP SPSB 6 with Bass roll off and omnidirectional mics both from sound professionals. I've not yet decided on the mics but am heading towards the AT831's, SP-BMC-10 or the SP-CMC-8. Sound Professionals have been great with their helpful advice. Your help and advice would be greatly appreciated. Many Thanks Wanna Trade????? Tracy Chapman Live Show Trade: http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/tracychapman_live/index.jhtml

The deck doesn't have much use on it and looks new. ~50 hours of recording and minimal play back. Never used for dubbing or cloning. $350.00 -chris
