attenuation options? ("John Quays") Re: pdaudio jude johnstone ("alan siegel") FS: Schoeps Gear and More ("john crouch")
From: "John Quays" <johnny__quays@hotmail.co.uk> Subject: attenuation options? Date: Mon, 08 Aug 2005 21:49:24 +0000 Can anyone help me with a cheap alternative to Core Sounds's -20dB attenuator cable? Is there something I could buy ready-made (from Maplin or a music shop, say) or can anyone give me some pointers for doing it as a DIY project? I think I understand the basic set-up but I'm not sure of the resistor values to be used. And I don't intend this as a slight to Len and his marvellous products- I'd just like to avoid paying international postage, import duty etc etc for what appears to be a fairly straightforward project. Any help much appreciated John _________________________________________________________________ Be the first to hear what's new at MSN - sign up to our free newsletters! http://www.msn.co.uk/newsletters

Battery packs are available for powering for extended time periods. Most users are live tapers. However, there are variety of others using it for sound effects, movie sound, environmental noise measurement, nature recording. Live2496 now has a scheduler and one university has used it to automate the capture of wildlife audio at timed intervals. Currently I'm working on a native FLAC encoder to reduce space and data bandwidth requirements. PDAudio with Live2496 is the only recorder that allows live media swapping while recording. I don't know of any other recorders that do that. No data is lost during the swap, as files are written to internal storage while changing media. The suspicion is that for the price, the M-Audio unit may not have an analog section on par with the Mic2496. We don't know yet. Core Sound has indicated that the recorders may serve two different market segments.
