Reply-to: g@hoxnet.com Date: Fri, 19 Aug 2005 17:03:02 -0700 I would stay away from using that "one button transfer" unless you're specifically trying to put 6 hours of audio on a DVD. If you want to transfer your old VHS HiFi tapes, just play them, and record the audio on a DAT recorder, CD recorder, or go through the A>D on your DAT recorder to input the audio to a computer. Any of these combinations can give you 44.1K, uncompressed PCM audio. By comparison, the DVD will give you 48K, MP3-type compressed audio (actually Digital Dolby 2.0), in a format that will take some effort to rip the tracks and separate the audio from the blank video. Also, beware of any DVD recording mode that goes over 6 hours, because this will likely reduce the audio quality as well as the picture. Also, when you play the VHS tapes, you may well run into tracking problems. You should be prepared to try playing them back on several different machines, and of course, to adjust the tracking manually if possible. Keep in mind that if you adjust the tracking slightly "off", you will get continuous audio without static, but it will be the low-fi mono audio, not the hi-fi stereo audio, that you'll be hearing. --Gary ------------------------------ From: "Karl Schneider" Subject: ISO: SBM-1 Date: Sat, 20 Aug 2005 10:25:24 -0500 Looking for a sbm-1. Would prefer a Doug Oade line stage modified version, but a stock would do. Thanks. Karl.schneider@cebridge.net ------------------------------ From: "Danny T" Subject: LP MD Transfer? Date: Sat, 20 Aug 2005 13:45:14 -0500 Just wondering if a kind DAT-head that owns an MD player that will play LP2 mode would transfer a show for me. It's a clone of a master of George Lynch and Yngwie Malmsteen from 3-16-04 at Pop's in Sauget, IL. Would like just a raw optical out transfer. No need to track or anything. Obviously I will pay for media and postage. And whoever can do it can pick a few shows from my list as well.
