From: Ryan Blum <ryanblum@gmail.com> Subject: FS: Sony D7 for parts Date: Sat, 20 Aug 2005 19:00:31 -0700 My Sony D7 has given up and I'm ready to give it up for scrap. The machine was successfully fixed once (cost: $150) and could probably be saved again if you're kinder to it (I used it in the field and it's just not durable). I'll give it to the best offer + $5 shipping. Peace Ryan
From: <bigjazzfan@cableone.net> Subject: Analog tapes to DVD Reply-To: bigjazzfan@cableone.net Date: Sat, 20 Aug 2005 21:40:11 -0700 Regarding duping your old audio tapes to DVD. If you record with Pioneer or Sony in the best 1 hour record speed they both will record 16bit PCM audio. Not DD compressed. But it's only in the 1 hour record speed. However there is no manual record level adjustment. And if you want to make sure you get the best audio off the tapes use a VCR with a TBC (time base corrector). It's puts out clean/stable synch and gets rid of tape jitter. Some JVC models in the consumer line offer this otherwise you'll need to find something in the pro line from Panasonic or Sony. Not sure what's even still being made for VHS. The above DVD recorders mentioned have TBC's to give a clean signal into the recorder prior to recording. That said last years Pioneers weren't very good. There new models work fine. Sony's got new models due out. Lastly Pioneer's models have a audio gain increase so you sound will be louder if you choose. It's only on Pioneer models. There are no DVD recorders with manual record level control. With one possible exception Toshiba might offer the feature on some of their better models. I would like the previous poster record to CDR or a computer. Or better yet record to the Tascam Audio recorder that uses DVD discs but you can record high res. audio in DSD or 24/192 formats. That's going to be the best method to archive. Last months Pro Audio Review gave it a fantastic review. bjf
