This Tascam DA-302 has been sitting around not being used for quite a
while, so I've decided to find it a new home.
I purchased it from a fellow DAT-Head back in 2002. I've dubbed maybe 20
tapes on it since then, and I doubt if I've even played more than that in
the same timeframe (my Sony R500 carries most of the load). Unit is still
mint as when I bought it, best I can tell. It'll come in the original box
with wired remote, instruction manual, etc. One added feature is that I
purchased and installed the balanced analog I/O module, which is not
commonly found in these units. At this time, the DA-302 is discontinued -
as many of you are aware - and finding one with such low use is pretty rare
these days (apparently it sat in the box before I bought it, only being
brought out to have Tascam give it a clean bill of health). There does not
appear to be anything wrong with the unit at all, as the last time I used
it, it had no problems.
Original retail on this deck was $1999. Based on vendors I found online,
one was still asking $1499 for this unit, and another offered the balanced
inputs for $110. I found one vendor asking $1000 for a used unit, but it
was identified as "removed from service," which probably means heavy use in
a studio. This unit has been babied in a smoke-free home.
I'm asking $600 plus shipping, though I'll consider other offers. If
anyone has any questions, please feel free to contact me.
Thanks,
Greg Teltschik

Sort of funny story...
In '96 I flew out of the (then) new TF Green airport in Rhode
Island (en route to Phish halloween). I packed all my stuff
and had the mics right at the top of my bag for easy inspection.
I had the mics in some homemade cases I made out of PVC
piping, with PVC caps. I could only imagine what a bomb-shaped
container with cylindrical electronic devices inside would look
like on an xray machine but I was pretty sure someone would
want to look at them.
I put my bag on the conveyor and before I could get through
the detector myself the woman at the xray machine was freaking
out and two people were tearing into my bag. I calmly walked
up to them and said something like "you probably saw my audio
recording microphones. I packed them right on top of my bag so
I could get to them easily and show you." I ended up pulling the
mics out and unscrewing the caps so they could see what they
were. I even had to explain how they worked. The 3 workers
were pretty freaked out. I think they thought I had bombs. In
fact I conciously made sure I didn't joke about it, or the fact that
they must've looked like bombs. Don't even think that word if
you're getting checked.
On the return leg in Atlanta no one even blinked at my stuff.
Go figure.
