You might try a Samson CO3. Under $100. I've got two that I'm using in
Blumlein.

I never really received good info from this question
last time I asked it, so I'll ask again.
1. "Does anybody know which model of PC internal data
DAT works for DAT audio uploads?"
if so
2. "What model are using?"
3. "What firmware is needed?"
4. "What are the correct dip switch settings?"
Thank You,
Sincerely,
BBurnett

I use Schoeps Mk8 capsules, for their good sound and modular
versatility, but can't really describe them as cheap. You could check
out AKG's CK4 capsule (hard to find) from their 4xx series, the
Sennheiser MKH 30 (non-modular mic), or look on ebay for Coles-,
B&O-, Speiden- or Beyer ribbons.
If still at the "dipping your toe" stage, though, you may want to
first tinker around with the expedient of approximating a Fig-8 from
two identical unidirectional mics (align capsules in vertical
coincidence, pointed in 180 deg opposite directions; combine signals
with one polarity-reversed). Inelegant, but a quick n' dirty 3-mic
route to Blumlein's kid brother - MS <g>.
Brace yourself to be somewhat underwhelmed with your Blumlein trials.
Patience is a virtue. When you do knock it off, there can be a
hairs-on-back-of-neck sheer 'rightness' about the sound, but it's a
knife-edge thing...picky with positioning and hall venue. And I've
had performers commenting on the general thinness of the sound
(earlier Fig-8 low end roll-off, but fixable by equalization or Shuffling)
