From: michael <mcmiller@cox.net> Subject: re: DAT to DVD Date: Mon, 19 Sep 2005 12:38:56 -0400 If you recorded your masters at 48K, the best program for the money is audio-dvd-creator. $40, easy to use, I know several people who use commercial applications and several people who use audio-dvd-creator. The latter is the easiest to use based on the combined reports. It's been very robust in my system. The only reason to spend the additional money to get DVD-A authoring capability is if you recorded your masters at one of the 44.1xN sample rates and want to author without having to resample. The DVD-V format supports 16 or 24 bit at 48k or 96k LPCM storage. Ausio-dvd-creator will provide the low bit rate background video stream meet the authoring specification. As mentioned previously, there are affordable DVD-A players on the market now, but the vast majority of the installed base is not DVD-A capable. DVD-V authored audio discs are going to be more portable until the installed base of players gets upgraded. Be aware that a lot of the older players may not properly play 24-bit LPCM. I have one older player that will play 16/96 LPCM but barfs on 24/96 LPCM audio tracks. If you are on a budget and must have DVD-A capability, there is an open source project on soundforge that is worth a look. I have not used it but there seems to be more than a few people using it with success.

From: wilson king <garbagebase@yahoo.com> Subject: Garbage tapers/traders Date: Mon, 19 Sep 2005 12:46:39 -0700 (PDT) Hello tapers and traders, So who's got the killer Garbage shows for trade? Now that their 2005 tour is almost over, it's time to see what's out there, what the best sources are, etc. I taped them 6+ times this year, and have clones/copies of quite a few more. No list online at this time but drop me a line and I'll let you know what I've got. Good quality too, Nuemmans, Schoeps, etc.. Really interested in finding a copy of their Amsterjam set from that Festival on 8/20. Anybody have it? Also looking for the Las Vegas show, 9/15/2005. I couldn't make it, but from the reports I've read, it looks like it was one of those shows that'll go down in Garbage history as unforgettable. Any tapers??? From: "Alan" <alans12@comcast.net> Subject: RE: DAT-heads Digest #606 Date: Mon, 19 Sep 2005 22:17:24 -0400 How abut this. It says it writes DVD-V compliant discs (plays on any DVD player, not just DVD-A players) with your choice of PCM up to 24/96 or AC3. $40, half what discwelder BRONZE costs, and it lets you create on screen menus. Bronze doesn't. http://www.audio-dvd-creator.com/ Also, DVD Architect will author DVD-V compliant music compilations which can handle up to 24/96. It does menus and all the good stuff. I imagine it's a bit more than 40 bucks. I have no idea what, if any, 'changes' happen to the PCM audio when you use the programs. Also, extracting may be an issue. Recommend, since you're going through all the trouble that you flac and back all that music on DVD-R. Alan ============= From: "billy bob" <shadowbill@hotmail.com> Subject: Storing DATs on DVD Uncompressed Date: Sat, 17 Sep 2005 13:15:52 -0400 I've spent a few hours looking around for info but still can't seem to find what I'm looking for. I'd like to take some DATs recorded at 48K and copy them to DVD-R and keep the same audio quality as the DAT Master. Which means I need to use PCM correct? Because Dolby Digital AC3 is compressed audio.
