Hi all,

  I still have some Grateful Dead DATs left to unload at the low price
of $1.00 a tape.  All of my 70's shows are gone but I have plenty of
80's and 90's and some 60's tapes left.  Email me for a list if you're

Greetings friends!

I'm having a weird problem with my Sony PCM-M1. I am using it with DAT tapes that were previously used to store computer (non audio) data. I can record fine, but the track numbers don't increment automatically as they usually do. This means the advance to next track feature doesn't work either. Has anyone experienced this problem before with DAT tapes used as computer backups? 

I'm pretty sure there's a way to manually create a track number, but I don't know what it is. Can someone tell me, and will it work for these tapes?

Any subtle problems I should know about? Like, the 'data' plays as silence, which is cool, but if I leave a gap between tracks, will that cause prolems?

I'm in India and don't have access to my user manual. Any help is much appreciated.

You should bulk erase (with a very strong eraser, not one for
cassettes) before recording.

On some decks.  On others, it's very loud noise.

I'm frustrated with writing my own lead sheets.  Can
anyone recommend software (I'd rather not spend more
than $350) that will accurately transcribe my own

Dear dat-heads,
I need to sell my 2 Sony PCM-M1, and I would prefer to pass them to a 
taper instead of the occasional ebay seller.
Here are the details:

1) PCM-M1 #1: the only flaw is that the LINE IN switch is not working, 
so you can only tape from MIC IN. I have used this one with OKMIIr 
microphones and never got problems. Works great and has all the original 
accessories (leather case, charger, 2 batteries, battery charger). I 
bought this 3 years ago.

2) PCM-M1 #2: this one is in perfect conditions and has all the original 
accessories (leather case, charger, 2 batteries, battery charger). I 
bought this 2 years ago.

I can provide pictures to those who may be interested. I live in Italy 
so it would be better to deal with a european dat-head, because of lower 
postal prices.
