Hello Dat-Heads,
Did anyone out there record any of the recent
Victor Wooten shows??? He played in Chicago last night
and I'm upset I couldn't go.
Have much other Fusion to trade

I think DIME (and it's predecessors and related sites) has opened up the
trading of live music to a lot more people. Not only that, but a lot of
groups/artists that might not get wide exposure are instantly available to
thousands of people.
I belonged to a lot of trading groups and did the snail mail thing for
years. You'll never see a vine get broken on DIME. You also won't download a
show with the 2-second gap because a newbie didn't understand how to copy
discs properly.
As for your other comments, well, I'll just say that I enjoy the
democratization of sharing live music. I have always shared my recordings
openly but also know that some tapers only share with other tapers. Contrary
to your claim, DIME has allowed many formerly limited shared performances to
be shared with many. It has most definitely led to a positive increase in
the amount of material available -- to the masses, for the price of a fast
internet connection. What's wrong with that?

...i dont think this dimeadozen...is really doing anything positive to
increase the amount of
material out there...it has definitely reduced the amount of tapers...
cassettes with no hiss were very cool to have.
recordings that came through particular channels
made me feel special just for having them.
