From: Nick Zuccaro <nmz77@yahoo.com> Subject: re: dimeadozen//etc.. Date: Mon, 5 Dec 2005 05:03:59 -0800 (PST) >>> thats what a few of my friends are saying now.... "why bother taping. you can download the show the next day" i dont think this dimeadozen (what exactly does that mean?) or archive or whatever is really doing anything positive to increase the amount of material out there it does however make any entry in its catalog a commodity >>> yeah, if you listen to fairly popular music there is a chance somebody will have it posted 3 hours after the show ends. if you listen to obscure music or stuff that's not openly taped you're in a way different situation. if you listen to any music that's not currently being made now (ex. coltrane?) you have no chance of that...dimeadozen/etc is great IMO because the content is so diversified to include lots of obscure sets from way long ago...stuff that you would have to track somebody down thru lots and lots of trading circles. yes, they prolly do have last night's DMB show but that's not the true benefit of a distributed trading network, which is allowing less-than-popular music to thrive and be traded....can you tell my avant-garde jazz slant? :) l8r...Nick bwt: i got quite a few >sUn rA aRkEstRa< sets off of easytree, i'll spin a few sets for the stargazers out there . * . * *
