ISO Grateful Dead 9/14/91 SBD > cassette master ("American Digital") For Trade: Depeche Mode Vancouver 15/11/2005 ("Mototaka Fujii") Editors - First US apps + Euro tour ("p.m.") Taiyo Yuden CDR ?? ("patchnbrit@wi.rr.com")
From: "American Digital" <dan@am-dig.com> Subject: ISO Grateful Dead 9/14/91 SBD > cassette master Date: Wed, 28 Dec 2005 11:22:26 -0500 Yes I know there are terrific DSBDs of this run but as many of you may have figured out Desolation Row is messed up. My SBD DATs of these shows are 2nd Gen I may guess is that all DSBDs in circulation have a goofed up Desolation Row. Oh yeah, before you think yours is good, listen again. Someone edited out 1 or 2 verses to try and disguise and/or cut out the bad flaws the exist. Anyway, and old friend of mine, Brad T., had a cassette master > DAT of this show without any errors on that song. Cassettes were made that night too. That would make for great patch material but I since lost touch with Brad T and lost the DAT he sent with the clean analog SBD Desolation Row. Brad if you are out there or if anyone else has the SBD: Cassette Master > DAT version of Grateful Dead at Madison Square 9/14/91 I'd like to get my hands on it for an exciting DVD project. And of course one of the first copies would immediately be dropped on your doorstep. Happy Holidays and a GREAT New Years to all. Dan Here is my Bandwidth TAX offer. I'll send this to several folks picked at random: Nirvana 7/23/93 Roseland Ballroom New York, NY July 23, 1993 DTS-Audio-CD 5.1 Mix 01 [02:18] Scentless Apprentice (fades in) 02 [02:54] School 03 [03:06] Breed 04 [04:37] Lithium 05 [03:48] Come As You Are 06 [04:30] Milk It 07 [03:45] Drain You 08 [01:28] Tourette's 09 [00:53] Aneurysm (cuts) > 10 [02:18] Very Ape 11 [05:05] Heart-Shaped Box 12 [00:43] Rape Me (fades out) TT [35:24] ========================================================= Source Info SBD: Soundboard > Sony TCD-D3 DAT SBD: DAT (x) > CDR(3) > EAC > HD SBD #1: This source cuts in halfway through 'Scentless Apprentice' and is missing 'Serve The Servants' entirely. 'Rape Me' cuts off and it is missing everything after this. It is rumored that this soundboard recording was made by stealth, i.e. without permission. The recording is incomplete due to the taper's batteries dying. AUD: Unknown "I Hate Myself And I Want To Die" [bootleg release] AUD: "I Hate Myself & Want to Die" CD(M) > CDR(1) > EAC > HD AUD #4: Source is incomplete. It is missing 'Blew', 'Territorial Pissings' and the vast majority of 'Aneurysm'. It is also out of order: 'Something In The Way' curiously appears after 'Where Did You Sleep Last Night?'. This source is only available on the bootleg 'I Hate Myself And Want To Die' and its clones 'I Love Myself And Want To Live' and 'Heart-Shaped Box' (Grapefruit). It is worth noting that the 'Heart-Shaped Box' (Grapefruit) bootleg is inferior sounding to 'I Hate Myself And I Want To Die'. ========================================================= Tech Notes EAC used on both sources in secure mode to extract all tracks at 100% no reported errors. SF 6.0 was used to reassemble the tracks back to 1 long wave. CEP2.0 was used to align & synch the SBD & the AUD sources. CEP2.0 used to adjust the volume for the AUD, SBD, Matrix and LFE channels. Surcode CD Pro DTS was used to encode to DTS. - Mixed by dan@am-dig.com - FLAC conversion 25-MAY-2005 - Artwork by dan@am-dig.com 300dpi - For best results print at the highest resolution onto glossy photo paper. Design for use with a clear single jewel case. - Special thanks to livenirvana.com for several of the images used on this art. Great place for the Nirvana community! ========================================================= DTS-Audio-CD Info Front Left Channel SBD +2db Right Channel SBD +2db Center Mixed to mono Matrix -5.5db 60-SBD/40-AUD Surround Left Channel -1.5db AUD Right Channel -1.5db AUD Sub/LFE Mixed to mono -5db SBD ========================================================= Notes Seems like the snare drum causes a mic overload problem on the SBD source. The top end of these drum beats sounds like a pop. This will be noticeable in both the 5.1 mix and the SBD + AUD matrix mix. The matrix mix did help to reduce this problem however. SBD fades into 'Scentless Apprentice'. AUD was trimmed to match and this is where the synching/mixing of these 2 sources begins. Various between song anomalies and cuts/pauses were found and fixed by either trimming the SBD or the AUD to match. Sometimes a crossfade was done on one or both sources to keep things sounding smooth and natural. These edits, quite a few, were pretty much just dead air/crowd noise. No talking, tuning or anything of interest was missing. These edits are smooth and most likely undetectable. d1t01 'Scentless Apprentice' 0:43.593 - '0:45.415' (1.821) left channel digital errors fixed with right channel swap. d1t02 4:55.299 - 5:02.148 (6.849) missing crowd cheer on SBD source. No talking or tuning was missing, just crowd noise. AUD was trimmed to match. This is smooth and most likely undetectable. d1t07 'Drain You ' 23:03.200 - 23:05.697 (2.497) right channel dropout. This is fixed using a left channel swap. This is smooth and most likely undetectable. d1t09 'Aneurysm' 27:17.504 - 27:19.004 (1.500) track 9 cuts and a 1.5 second crossfade was performed into the start of track 10 'Very Ape'. Nothing is missing of track 9. I thought this would make for a more enjoyable listening experience. The crossfade is obvious to the listener but better than the cut IMO. d1t12 'Rape Me' cuts off at '35:23.592' on the SBD source and that where the mixing of these sources ends. If you play this DTS-Audio-CD and hear static it is b/c you didn't really read the text file, did you? ========================================================= More On DTS Today's audio standards are moving towards multi-channel sound, like DTS and Dolby Digital. While the Audio-CD standard (Red Book) hasn't changed to accommodate these new sound formats, it is still possible to go around the specification and to put a 5.1 surround recording on a regular Audio-CD. To play a DTS-Audio-CD you must connect your DVD/CD player via a digital cable (optical or coaxial) to your DTS Dolby-Digital receiver. It is not 100% sure that your receiver will recognize a DTS-Audio-CD, so the first time you're trying to playback a DTS-Audio-CD you must do a test to determine if it can. Begin with the volume very low, start the disc and raise the volume gradually. NEVER listen to a DTS-Audio-CD through the analog audio outputs of your CD/DVD player. ***This is not for your computer, your iPod, CD walkman or any thing other than your home theatre setup! If you enjoy movies in DTS 5.1 then you will love this!*** Burning Instructions Burn them the absolute same way as you would burn any normal Audio-CD from FLAC/SHN files.

Taped on Sony ECM717 condenser mic > Sony PCM-M1. The audio is complete from start to finish and is in very good quality. I am looking forward to hearing from you, Moto (Stockholm, Sweden) Have a happy New Year!
