If the incoming signal has SCMS 00 then that gets recorded and the outgoing is also 00. If incoming is 11, then 10 gets recorded and sent; if incoming is 10 then nothing gets recorded (I'm not sure about sent). Basically, you want the master to be a pro deck, or have an scms-eater after it. I have a copy of the Service/Theory Manual but I'm having difficulty find= ing a copy of the original User Instructions. If anyone is able to help, then I am willing to pay for their time/troubl= e. My email address is: mikekimberley@tiscali.co.uk Many thanks Mike ___________________________________________________________ Tiscali Broadband from 14.99 with free setup! http://www.tiscali.co.uk/products/broadband/ ------------------------------ From: Tom McCreadie Subject: dB quiz Date: Sun, 16 Apr 2006 12:39:11 +0200 List seems moribund of late, so here's a little dB / SPL quiz for those of the nerdier persuasion with time on their hands: Q1. A clothes- and dishwasher sit atop each other in a room. On its own the clotheswasher produces a perceived SPL of 70dB, the quieter dishwasher only 60dB. Assuming an ideal situation - same freq. response, uncorrelated sound etc. - what's the observed SPL when both are running? Q2. You record a concert with a coincident cardioid pair at an included angle of 120 deg. (i.e. mikes pointing to 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock, w.r.t. to 'straight ahead' centre stage 12 o'clock). On a whim, you decide to (a) sum & difference matrix the L/R signals to get an M/S pair, (b) boost the S channel by 6dB and (c) rematrix to get a new L/R 'virtual' array. - What is the effective included angle of this new array? - On the narrowness of pattern of the new virtual mikes, how many dB is each mike down at 90 deg. off its main axis? How much was the original cardioid down at 90 deg. off axis? Q3 In the above concert, a minstrel strolls across the stage, following an arc equidistant from the mics, singing and playing at a constant intensity. On your tape recorded using the 120 deg. coincident cardioid array, what is the obtained meter level (in dB, relative to 12 o'clock position = 0dB) when the minstrel is (a) at the 10 o'clock stage location (actual, not stereo-imaged), (b) at 11 o'clock. For simplicity, assume only direct sound is being recorded. Q4. What are the relative recorded levels at 10- and 11 o'clock angles if you had opted instead for an array with 130 deg. included angle? Q5. With the 120 deg. array, what are the relative recorded levels at 10- and 11-o'clock angles, if the minstrel strolled across the stage in a straight line instead of an equidistant arc? Q6. If it's 5 o'clock in the afternoon in Buffalo NY, what's the G.M.T. in Denver Colorado? Time to stop - straying off topic. Tom p.s.
