I've used more than a 100 Sony DG90Ps in the last two years and
I've had very good luck with them. The only head clog I can recall
was when I was playing another brand of tape! Also no jams.
Used them in a Sony D8 and Fostex D5s.
I haven't used Maxell tapes in quite a few years, so it's always
possible they've gotten better, but the last time I had several
batches of them, I had head clogs on all the batches. Therefore, I
really don't recommend these tapes! Nothing personal, Maxell, but
it really did seem like an out-of-the-ordinary number of clogs.
The Sony tapes are cheap and I'm sure a vendor or two is reading
this list and will come forward!
P.S. if you are using 90m tapes in an M1 or D100, you should NOT
reverse-scan the tape, as this can cause permanent tape damage.
There is also potential risk in doing an index search since this
causes a reverse scan. I would recommend only recording in the
M1/D100 and play back on another deck, if at all possible. If you
do play back on the M1, try to do a one-pass playback without a
lot of going back! Or stick with 60m tapes, such as the Sony
DG60P, which do not have this problem.

Does anyone have the "Reel Master" of this FM broadcast version? I
already have the the 1st gen
(Reel Master > Reel > DAT >CDR: stereo version) clone. But my disc
has some error noises....
So I would like a CLEAN copy. If anyone has it, please reply privately.

I have a Zoltrix Nightingale Pro 6 soundcard with optional optical
daughterboard. I removed it, fully functioning, from an old computer about
two years ago, packed it up in a padded mailer, and it's been sitting here
at my desk ever since. I can't promise you that it works, although I have
no reason at all to believe that it does not. I'm not going to unpack it
and reinstall it to check it out, either. It's got the CDROM
installer/manual disc with it.
If you are interested in this thing, let me know, and I'll send it to you.
You can send me whatever you think it is worth. If there are multiple folks
interested, I'll pick one at random a while after the next digest hits my
inbox.

If anyone is interested, I have a battery box for powering 'plug-in power'
requiring mics. I built it myself and have used it to run Core Cardioids
for many successful recordings, and have since built another. It's built
inside a photographic slide plastic box, so it's the width of two slides
side-by-side, one slide-width in height, and about 3/4" tall. 1/8" in and
out, miniplug, stereo; no rolloff circuitry, which I've never noticed
needing anyway.
It uses 2 x 9v batteries, mostly because I didn't know how to design a
circuit using only one battery. The pair in it now should be good for many
more shows (est. life > 500 hours).
If you want it, drop me a line and I'll send it to you. You can pay me
whatever you think it's worth when you get it.

<mahatma57@sbcglobal.net> asked:
>>>What I'd
like to know is, what is the best source for 90m DDS
tapes online? What
brands are still in production, and which brand would
you recommend?<<<
Sony and Maxell are still in production. I personally
don't have a strong preference of one over the other.
Some places to get them:
