Three additional dates for the Blue Cheer tour have been announced. It
looks like the added dates are in TX, Santa Cruz, and MPLS. Check the
band's myspace site, www.myspace.com/bluecheer for the details and the
band's taping policy (taping IS allowed). I might add that I would
especially like to hear from anyone taping the Minneapolis show....the
opening act at this show is a local band called Zebulon Pike....they also
allow taping, and are also worthwhile.....an all-instrumental twin lead
guitar progressive-style act, the nearest comparision I can personally think
of would be Lonesome Crow-era Scorpions.
Zebulon Pike got a favorable writeup in the Star-Tribune newspaper in the
fall of 2004, but unfortunately the story is no longer on the paper's
website. However, I can paste the following review which was forwarded to
me (apologies for length to those of you who don't like rock and roll):
"Zebulon Pike - And Blood Was Passion (Self-Release)
By Chris Barnes

Zebulon Pike should appeal to anyone that is even a causual Hellride
reader - it's got everything MOST of us love in a common embrace - true 70's
cult rock/prog appeal with a tendency to take sharp downward turns into
doomland. I'm thinking early Rush here, with bits of King Crimson, very
early Priest, Pentagram . heck I pretty much agree with everything on their
bio. For once, a bio that isn't full of it.
For those that are familiar with metalish prog monkeys Darediablo, ZP are in
that ballpark - all instrumental, too good with their instruments, bad
dressers. There are differences though - ZP draw much more from the vintage
licks of yesteryear and where Darediablo would probably appeal more to the
skinny know-it-all record clerks with bookbags, ZP has the power to appeal
both to the former and to all us doom/bong rock dirtbags.
The thing I like about Zebulon Pike is that when you're sure their about to
take off into self-indulgent wankery (afterall, there IS a heavy prog
influence here) they take a blind left, slow the tempo down and doom out.
Right when you least expect it. It's unsettling, but it's snappy. I like the
unexpected.
I don't know a damn thing about playing an instrument, but I do know what
sounds good. ZP both know how to play their instruments and have that
all-important musical chemistry that shakes out the greats. I really like
this and chances are if you have any interest in cult 70's hard rock and/or
prog, you will too.
Visit the Zebulon Pike website at www.zebulonpike.com "
Hopefully someone in MPLS will tape both acts!
Yours Truly,
