Hi everyone,
Back in 1999 I recorded a bunch of Mr. Bungle and Fantomas shows with a
friends Sony DAT Portable. At the time, some of the shows were
transferred to CD via analog cables. None were transferred digitally.
The DATs have been sitting in a box for the past six years - untouched.
I just won a Tascam DA-2 MkII off Ebay so I'll finally be able to
transfer them digitally to my PC. Can anyone give me some advice on:
1. What should I do with the 6 year old DATs before I play them back?
Should I FF to the end then rewind or can I just pop them in the deck
and play them?
2. Deck Heads - Should I clean them immediately when the deck arrives?
I have experience cleaning VHS heads manually, is it safe to do this
with the deck or should I buy a cleaning cartridge? Should I only
clean the heads if I'm picking up errors upon playback?
Thanks,
E
