My friend and I are having problems connecting a 744 and a DAT deck digitally in the field. The 744 was the master deck operating at 44.1Khz, 16 bit, 2 channel. The digital out of the 744 was set to consumer mode which I believe is the spdif setting. Using the 75 ohm bnc to rca adapter ( purchased with the recorder) and connecting a digital cable between the two. A Sony D8 gave a no input available, Both an HHB portadat and a Tascam DAP1 could lock on the signal but were showing that they were recording digitally in 48K. We both thought that was a little strange but being new users of this unit we figured we might have over looked something in the 744 menu. the 744 recorded flawlessly. Upon playback of the DAT tapes the audio on both decks was scrambled and inaudible. We have gone over the manual a few times and can't find anything that addresses the problem. If I remember correctly AES/EBU is a higher voltage than spdif and will usually result in a no input error if you try to connect the two without a convertor. I'm wondering if the 744 has a bad clock signal out, but that is just a guess. Anyone hear or have a similar problem with this unit? My friend contacted the vendor where he purchased the unit but they couldn't come come up with a solution. thanks for the help, Adam ------------------------------ ** FOR YOUR REFERENCE ** To unsubscribe from this digest, please send email to dat-heads-unsubscribe@datheads.phish.net If your email address has changed, you may (optionally) send the message to dat-heads-unsubscribe-oldaddress=olddomain@datheads.phish.net and the old address will be removed.
