I find that it's algorithms are at least equal to any other program and in research done recently and confirmed in the field, the sample rate conversion in Peak 5 is better than anything else for the Mac. See . With the current playlist arrangement, you can burn CDs from whatever you want. SDII files are necessary to burn using Jam if you want to use the markers as track markers from one SDII file. That's a limitation of Jam, not Peak. I have never had the marker problem that you mention (since version 1.5) and if I don't do anything to the audio, I don't need to rewrite the whole file to save. This is true of any destructive audio program. I am not saying that you might not have had these problems, but I and many other who use Peak on a daily basis have not had them. I think that if the program were as problematic and buggy as you imply, it never would have gotten off the ground. In the past few years I have found most audio programs to be stable and reliable. Audio is not the cutting edge of computer technology that it once was. Back in the days of OS 7 and 8 things were very different. It's been a long time since an audio program has crashed my computer or has given me unpredictable results. I find Peak 5 to be a flexible and reliable program. There are other worthy programs as well, but Peak is by no means at the bottom of the heap in features and quality. It seems to be the professional standard for Mac, alongside of Sonic Solutions programs, which are quite a bit more expensive (although they do sound great. They do have their own problems, especially when it comes to compatibility with other systems). You can go to http://www.tcelectronic.com/ and look at assorted info under their "discontinued products" section. Also FWIW, it appears that Spark now hangs on some versions of OSX 10.4.x - YMMV... I used to use Spark XL (their "full" package) extensively with OSX 10.2.8 - GREAT noise resduction algorithms, plus the kick-ass TC Native Bundle mastering plugins (popular in many grade-A Pro Tools studios), amongst many other desirable features. I would like to put backups on a disc or hard drive. I'm talking upwards of 5000 hours. What would you recommend? I've got a PC (laptop & desktop) and external hard drive. Would be willing to get something else reasonable to help. Cost is a factor, but not entirely.
