(Nick Georges) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Nick Georges Subject: re: Subject: Want a small recorder. Looking for suggestions. Date: Thu, 02 Nov 2006 07:05:52 -0500 I've used a few and have some opinions I can share. 16bit iRiver: great little 20gb ipod sized recorder with toslink input/output and USB2.0 transfers. Rockbox firmware required (free). excellent little deck. analog input performance is on par w/the D8. I've been using one for a few months. Really like it. Much better than the Creative Labs Nomad JB3. and...you can find one cheap. I paid $130 for mine on eBay 24bit Edirol R1: a little bulky, but not bad. great analog input sound. digital output only. crappy level meeters. records forever on AA batteries and uses CF cards for media. Good sound / poor user interface Edirol R9: my favorite of them all. Very small sized. Excellent levels and features. Very easy to use. no digital input, but exceptional analog input. sounds like an SBM1, only 24bit. Runs on AA cells and SD media. Great little deck for stealthing as well as open recording. M-Audio microtracker 2496 decent interface, nice and small. digital input (coax). records to CF. - crappy analog input - no auto file split at 2gb mark. - has been notoriously flaky for many users, but seems to be ok w/newest firmware. Coming... Korg portable DSD recorders!! http://www.korg.com/gear/info.asp?a_prod_no=MR__Series&category_id=3 this will be what I run in the near future. dont care about digital I/O really, so this is *perfect*, and its the only portable DSD recorder made (at the moment). Not for everyone...but certainly the cats ass for me! ------------------------------ ** FOR YOUR REFERENCE ** To unsubscribe from this digest, please send email to dat-heads-unsubscribe@datheads.phish.net If your email address has changed, you may (optionally) send the message to dat-heads-unsubscribe-oldaddress=olddomain@datheads.phish.net and the old address will be removed.
