FS: Sound Devices MP2 (jw@thewhitleys.com) SBM-1 and M-box Sync Problems (zenzone)
From: jw@thewhitleys.com Subject: FS: Sound Devices MP2 Date: Thu, 23 Nov 2006 11:17:41 -0800 Happy Thanksgiving! Ack, I'm selling my MP2 cuz I need the money. It was purchased from Sonic Sense new in early 2001. It's a small preamp and I bought it specifically for stealth taping. It makes great tapes, functions perfectly and runs for a long time on two standard AA batteries. Sound Devices no longer makes this model, but Shure makes one that I believe is basically identical which retails for around $700. $400 OBO. I'll eat the Paypal charges, you eat the shipping. Thanks! -Josh
From: zenzone <zenzone@sympatico.ca> Subject: SBM-1 and M-box Sync Problems Date: Thu, 23 Nov 2006 14:48:32 -0500 Hey people, I just picked up an m-box (model 1) and pro tools le. But there seems to be some trouble transferring from my sbm-1 dat recorder via the m-box spdif connection. Pro tools le doesn't want to sync with the clock in the sbm-1. It transfers OK when I sync via the m-box internal clock, but I'm a little reluctant to do that, since I suspect it will result in clock-drift during longer transfers. And probably there's re-sampling during even short transfers, which I have know way of knowing but want to avoid. Usually I've transferred via an audiophile 2496 sound card and Sound Forge software, which syncs nicely with the sbm-1, but I thought I'd like to do it all via pro tools if I could. I seem to remember hearing about this problem, with the advice being that sony dat machines don't transfer well via the m-box spdif (i.e. can't use dat's clock for syncing) but can't track down the references. Anyone have any experience with this, or advice? thanks and om zzone
