DAT -> PC (flac/wav) Migration?

Has anyone recently done any DAT to PC migration/archiving/copying and may
be willing to share with me a summation of your experience - specifically
what type of equipment did you use to interface your DAT player to your PC
and perhaps some 'gotchas' that I need to look out for as I begin to plan
this very long-term project. I've got a couple of 500GB external HD's that
I'll be archiving to and want to end up with either flac's or wav's as my
end-file type on the drives.
I'm currently looking at the M-Audio Audiophile USB external sound card
(I'll be performing this project on my ThinkPad X60 CoreDUO w/ an old
version of Sony SoundForge 7.0 so an external sound interface is required)
and would like to hear if anyone has had a good/bad experience with it and
perhaps has any other recommendations.
Thanks,
-BJr
