From: seanst@ntelos.net Subject: DATS Date: Sat, 3 Feb 2007 16:17:58 -0500 (EST) Hi there- I have a bunch of DATs that I've put on cd and am looking to get rid of- mostly Dead, but some other bands too. Let me know if you're interested and I'll make a list. Thanks, Sean
From: "Gary Davis" <g@hoxnet.com> Subject: Reel to Reel Dolby Reply-to: g@hoxnet.com Date: Sat, 3 Feb 2007 14:26:54 -0800 Dolby B was sold built-in to many consumer reel to reel tape recorders in the 1970 (and 80s?) because it really reduced the hiss! Keep in mind even at 15ips, 1/2 track, tape is hissy, so clearly at 7.5 or 3.75 (3 3/4) ips, 1/4 track, you're going to want some noise reduction. With this in mind, the first Revox that I purchased new, was a model with Dolby B: an A77 mk IV for $1172 in 1974. Some years later I bought a used A700 which lacked Dolby, so I coupled it with a Nakamichi NR200 external Dolby unit which could do Dolby B and Dolby C. I recorded a number of tapes in the later years at 3 3/4, Dolby C. Unfortunately, very few consumers recorded a Dolby level tone on their tapes, although I did occasionally. The Revox A77 tested out on Maxell XL II tape at 20Hz - 18.5 KHz, +/- 1.5dB, at 10dB down, at 3 3/4 speed !! This was my own measurement (not manufacturers hype) and I dare say this surpasses any cassette deck -- not to mention, 3+ hours per side running time on 10 inch reels! (Note: the 18.5KHz recording was possible, in part, because the 15KHz "Dolby FM cut" filter is switchable). --Gary

From: Brian Dowling <jlizard@mac.com> Subject: Looking for Scratch Acid/The Jesus Lizard/Qui Date: Sun, 4 Feb 2007 00:34:24 -0500 Since the past 3 Scratch Acid Reunion shows, I thought they may have spur an interest in trading some of the this great music. I am looking for any audio (DAT, Cassette, Reel, Hard Disk, CF), and video (VHS, betamax, Hi8, Dig8, DVD, etc) . Please forward any lists or inquiries to my email address. I am particularly in need of some 1982-1988 Scratch acid video footage to help with a documentary. Also looking for any of The Jesus Lizard material so that it can be archived. And anyone who has taped David Yow's latest participation in the LA area- Qui , please get in touch with me. Have lots to trade, but looking for this material in particular.
