From: jw@thewhitleys.com Subject: FM Modulators/mobile LPFM (NDC) Date: Fri, 16 Mar 2007 05:46:15 -0700 So I received a portable Siruis player for X-mas this year and =20 discovered, predictibly, that the FM modulator to broadcast the output =20 to my radio was quite crappy. I installed an auxilary input via a =20 wired FM modulator (Ebay, $20ish) which sits in between the FM =20 antennae and the radio and gives me an RCA input which is broadcast =20 directly to the stereo on 88.1. I wish I would've know about these =20 years ago, as it is a great way to add a jack for your Ipod or =20 portable DAT. At first I was getting some whining background noise =20 that correlated with the RPMs of the engine, which I thought was due =20 to the wired FM modulator not being grounded directly to the frame per =20 instructions on the guys ebay site. Long story short, it was the =20 (poorly designed) Sirius device bringing it in through the cigarette =20 lighter jack (I discovered this by plugging my dat in to the aux in). =20 So I went down to Radio Shack and bought a little widget designed to =20 take RF interference out and plugged it into the line out of the =20 Sirius Stiletto and into the input of the wired FM modulator. Problem =20 solved, and now I can bump tunes in my car at full volume and it =20 sounds great, not CD quality but much, much better than it was =20 originally and I had a great time for roughly the next 36 hours before =20 my little Sirius guy shit the bed :-P In any case, I was wondering if there might be any LPFM folks on the =20 list that would have input (no pun intended) on installing a straight =20 up LPFM transmitter in the trunk of a car. You could go see a show =20 and then broadcast it immediately afterward, not to mention that the =20 FCC couldn't triangulate your location if you're not up 24/7 and =20 mobile. (On Wikipedia, there is an interesting writeup of KGNU on in =20 Boulder CO that was hit by the FCC a few years ago.) Go Team DAT!!! -Josh

Date: Fri, 16 Mar 2007 14:56:34 -0400 seems like a nice little unit - 8 tracks and 40GB disk -- Why worry, there should be laughter after the pain There should be sunshine after rain These things have always been the same So why worry now
From: "Gary Davis" <g@hoxnet.com> Subject: SXSW coverage also on XM43 Reply-to: g@hoxnet.com Date: Fri, 16 Mar 2007 15:08:33 -0800 There is some overlap but quite a few different bands (from the DirecTV coverage) on XM channel 43, starting each day at noon ET for 6 hours. --G
From: michael hooker <mhooker@optonline.net> Subject: cool edit recording problems Date: Fri, 16 Mar 2007 21:58:11 -0500 a bit off topic, but not far. when i record in cool edit, the right channel is recording random clicks. i re-installed 2.0 and installed 2.1. both do it. its not a ton of clicks, and they arent really loud, but they are there. if i record for a minute with no input, the left channel is clean, the right one has random clicks. i reseated the soundcard and cables, reinstalled the sound card software, still there. any ideas? gary d? thanks have fun, mike hooker
