refurbished DAT decks? (Scott Hansen)
From: Scott Hansen <schansen@cts.com> Subject: refurbished DAT decks? Date: Wed, 21 Mar 2007 18:34:47 -0800 Hey all there is a *small* possibility that in the near future, I may be helping out a friend with transferring over a huge number of DAT recordings to CD, and I'm strongly considering the possibility of purchasing a pair of pro decks to help get this done. Obviously, since DAT decks are no longer being manufactured, I'll have to look at getting used or refurbished decks, and for this project, I'd prefer to go with refurbished. For this project, I'd be dealing with hundreds of 2-track DATs that range in age from 1 year old up to 15, and I haven't a clue as to what brand or condition they are in. These recordings have *not* been previously backed up (which is why I'd be getting involved), so utmost care is required. So I am wondering if anyone can recommend what pro decks would be best suited and where is a reliable place to purchase them from? Also, considering the nature of these recordings, can anyone provide any other suggestions/hints/tips to insure that all these recordings will be safely transferred with few (in any) instances of tape breaks/damage? I'd appreciate whatever feedback I can get. Thanks in advance! Scott PS My Sony 59ES seems to have taken a dump on me (tapes will play but no sound and meters read nothing/difficult in fast-winding a single tape both ways) - any suggestions for where I can get it looked at and hopefully overhauled? I'd prefer local (San Diego, CA) but am willing to consider elsewhere.
