Hello-
Thanks for all of the ideas, still having the problem though--
For those of you just tuning in:
Digital transfer from DAP1>U2A>Dell Dimension 2300 (1.8Ghz Celeron)
The recordings show up in the computer with all of these dropouts 
present. If I highlight and delete the dropouts, which are only about 1 
ms a piece, the music sounds fine. The waveform seems to match up, but 
there are about 100 of them over a 3 hour recording.
It's not the tape - I tried other tapes and they all have them.
It's not audible upon playback for listening.
I shut down AV software and have only WaveLab and the U2A Control Panel 
running.
I defrag often and my 60Gb HD is only 50% full.
I tried a different digital cable.

Any other suggestions? Some of you mentioned something about "polling", 
but I don't know what that is.
I do have a USB  scanner hooked up.
Thanks for the help.

What sound cards are out there that have digi coax in/out that are 
recommended? The only reason I got the U2A in the first place was 
becasue I had an older computer that wouldn't jive with any on-board cards.
