Always has been a pretty cool place, unless there's a flame war going on... ;) 
Don't forget that the newbies gotta' learn somehow, and that we were all 
new at this once... My first real show tape was recorded on a handheld analog cassette deck, through the internal mics, and the oh-so-stylish tube-sock windscreen...  =)  Pretty good tape... (of me & my buddies having a high time
with The Dead playing in the background... =) ) 

Even though I'm now using the SD 744 direct to harddrive box, I'm still a
"taper", which is a team sport.
