newbies gotta start somewhere (Mike Parker)
From: Mike Parker <mikeparker5@yahoo.com> Subject: newbies gotta start somewhere Date: Thu, 10 May 2007 19:37:53 -0700 (PDT) Yep, we all gotta start somewhere. My first taped show was Black Sabbath & Motorhead with one of those cheap Sony dictaphone recorders in 1989 or so. Second show was Little Feat, but I dropped the deck and the tape has some warbles on it due to that that can't be fixed. Oh well, went out and bought a Sony D8 after that. My own personal favorite was Bob Dylan at a 'secret show', in Portland, OR 2000. Bob rented the hall for a week for rehersals, and nobody knew about it. Guess he decided to sell a few tickets for the last night, there was one announcement on a local radio station that I missed. I found out about it by accident, looking on eBay for dylan stuff. Ended up buying a ticket from a scalper for $200. Best money I ever spent. It wasn't crowded at all, they only sold 1000 tickets and the hall holds 2500, so there was actual elbow room to be had. Being right up front, in front of a bank of speakers, with Dylan 10 feet away, and a small crowd, half of which were in the balcony, well what can you say. Best show of my life. Bob and the boys were having a great time, Dylan looked like he was really enjoying himself. Sort of spoiled me on any future Dylan shows. The next day, Bob played to 20,000 at Portland Meadows.
