Security Question For LA Venues (Matthew Giller)

Subject: Brickwalling\attenuation question

Since these two are somewhat related, I figured I'd combine them.
I recently recorded a show thru the mic in on my D8 (I wasn't getting good
readings thru the line in and I panicked), well needless to say, the tape
brickwalled. It's not a complete disaster (somewhat mild) so I am hoping to
repair it with software.
Is there a proven method for cleaning this up? i.e.. some software that had
a 'anti-brickwalling' restoration feature, some proven hard-limiting
solution or EQ settings solution? This was a great show and it would really
suck if I couldn't get it to a more listenable state.
As far as attenuation goes, is this kit good for a D7\D8? Will it work for
both mic-in situations and SBD feeds?
Will it give me the right db setting?

Thanks in advance,

It's looks like my D7 finally went belly up. It seems to be in an infinite
reboot cycle. While I am borrowing a D8 I figure I'd open up the discussion
again about hard disk\flash based solutions. The ones I am considering are:
Edirol R-09
M-Audio MicroTrack 24/96
Zoom H4 Handy Recorder
Korg MR-1
My basic requirements are:
Frequency response comparable to or better than DAT, large file capacity,
auto-leveling for loud sources, hold\lock buttons, ability to use external
mics etc...
What I am looking for from this post is actual user experience and opinions.
Please reply to the list, I am sure there are other people considering the
same purchase.
Also, what advantage does the 1bit recording method (the Korg MR-1) have
over the others?
Thanks in advance,
Rich
