I recorded Nick Lowe on Friday on my iRiver.
The levels are decent except for the audience applause between songs
where the levels spike and clip.
Should I leave them as is?
My inclination is to lower the levels by 3 db's for the spiked sections.
Thanks,
Grape

Hi all,
I taped Modest Mouse 2/18/2002 (DAT) and am just now getting around to
mastering it to disc. The problem I have is this: the levels are quite low
but I can't normalize them without adding to an existing bass-distortion
problem. Can this be filtered out? I was between mic setups at this point in
time and was taping using a cheap set of ECMs with no battery box or bass
filtration. I have never had this problem before or since so I assume that
the bass roll-off absence is to blame for the distortion.
Can anyone help me correct the levels and remove the distortion? Using a
filter, maybe? I am using Sound Forge 8.0 and any help would be greatly
appreciated.
Thanks,
Jason Coble

Does anyone out there have this show? I'm looking for an upgrade from
my copy that I currently have.

The cassette hiss on it is rather loud. I tried removing it but
couldn't do so without destroying the highs too much. I'm content with
it but of course would love an upgrade as this is a fantastic show.
The main reason for my search of an upgrade is that there is an odd
skip/jump at about 47:15 into the recording.
Have tons of MMW stuff to trade/offer in return.
TIA,
Mike

Hoping someone here can help shed some light on this. I taped a show last
weekend and with the following setup CSB > D8 15 ft from stack, line in, low
sens., auto\music. And it brickwalled!!! I have used this setting a dozen
times before at rock shows and they always come out perfect. The only
difference is I am using a D8 instead of my old D7 (it consctantly reboots
itself and I don't think it's worth the money to repair). So my questions
are:
Does the D8 have a higher sensitivity than the D7?
Should I use an attenuator regardless of the sound source?
How can I tell how much attenuation I will need?
Will this still be an issue when I take the plunge into flash based
recording?
Is this attenuator sufficient?

Turns out I have this Thursday off so I was going to catch ZPZ here in
Columbus that night. Anyone know if open taping is allowed? I don't
care for stealthing much anymore.
Either way, I'll check out the show, then hustle over to the one room
indie movie house in my neighborhood for a midnight showing of the
Simpsons Movie. Should be a good night.
