DAT-heads Digest #199, Volume #8 Fri, 10 Aug 07 17:50:01 EDT Contents: recording cleanup question (Nate Pelton) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Nate Pelton Subject: recording cleanup question Reply-To: nate@adkmusic.com Date: Fri, 10 Aug 2007 11:47:38 -0400 Hello- I'm running: Rode NT4 > M-Audio Buddy Pre-Amp > DA-P1 I recorded an outdoor show and the tape came out a little heavy (saturated) on certain loud vocals and the organ. All the other instruments seem unaffected (guitars, bass, percussion, drums). Everything sounded fine throughout the night through the headphones, and the sound seemed great from the PA. Is it possible that the sound would hit the tape differently than what we heard? Is it possible to add too much gain with the preamp (DAT levels did not clip)? - I've never had it happen before... Any suggestions on cleaning the recording up? I have all the wav editing software (WaveLab, CoolEdit, Nuendo, etc..) I just don't know where to start with all the options available. I've tracked the show and have been experimenting with one track at a time. I've tried to pinpoint the problem frequencies, but haven't had much luck. I've normalized the hot spots, dropping their gain, and it seems to help a bit, but is very time consuming. I don't mind spending a lot of time on it, it was a great night and I have the only recording unfortunately. Anyone curious enough to help, I'd be happy to upload a track to see what you can do with it. The band is Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad, a great Dub Reggae band from Rochester, NY. They played in my backyard last weekend. Thanks for your help. -Nate ------------------------------ ** FOR YOUR REFERENCE ** To unsubscribe from this digest, please send email to dat-heads-unsubscribe@datheads.phish.net If your email address has changed, you may (optionally) send the message to dat-heads-unsubscribe-oldaddress=olddomain@datheads.phish.net and the old address will be removed.
