I run OS 10.3.9. Somebody please advise a dinosaur. Thanks. I first read about this site right here on DAT-heads: http://pdicamillo.org/~peter/datxtract/ Instead of looking for a digital audio interface (USB, Firewire or PCI card) I found a Sony SDT 9000 and a SCSI PCI card (ATTO is better than Adaptec) on e-bay at very reasonable prices. SCSI to Firewire or USB adaptors will also work, but you will have to open the Sony case to enable termination power with these) Be sure that the SCSI card is a "pull" from a Mac and NOT a Windows PC, and that the Sony SDT 9000 is a "pull" from and SGI computer, otherwise you will need to "flash" the firmware, and it may be very difficult to find it. Son y is not very helpful. But I found the whole project worth the effort because you can transfer perfect copies at less than half real-time. A 90 meter tape with 3 hours of music takes about an hour and 20 minutes to transfer. With thanks to all those that posted about this in the past, and in particular to Peter DiCamillo that made it possible to do this on the Mac. Shame on Apple for not making it part of System 6-9, or even OS X where a port over from the Unix software would have been easy. SGI made this available ages ago. ------------------------------ ** FOR YOUR REFERENCE ** To unsubscribe from this digest, please send email to dat-heads-unsubscribe@datheads.phish.net If your email address has changed, you may (optionally) send the message to dat-heads-unsubscribe-oldaddress=olddomain@datheads.phish.net and the old address will be removed.
