From: swsmith@ix.netcom.com Subject: Re: Wanted: AC adapter for Sony D8 Reply-To: swsmith@ix.netcom.com Date: Wed, 5 Dec 2007 12:54:31 -0600 (GMT-06:00) Our good friends at Radio Shack carry a multi-tap transformer w/ 15 different ends. One of 'em fits the external power input of the D8, almost... The diameter is correct, but Sony used a shorter jack, so some of the new plug will stick out from the unit case. Best Buy used to carry the same model (identical except for the store logo), but don't know if they still do as they've switched suppliers in the last couple years. Remember to check the polarity as it might be reversed. FYI, the D8, D3 cassette, D3 DAT, and the D6 cassette units all share the same size dc input jack, which I believe is a first for Sony. They're famous for changing _everything_ from jack size and shape, and even creating entirely new connectors when introducing new units. This is where we get the infamous RK-type 7 pin digital connector when the rest of the industry had already standardized on RCA/coaxial connections for SPDIF and XLR connectors for the pro-grade AES/EBU digital interfaces. The D-10 Pro model had yet another differently shaped connector. When the first Mini Disc units arrived they introduced the combination analog 1/8" mini plug or "mini optical. I think is called "reinventing the wheel", but it seems like it's making them money. The owner's manual lists model numbers for the adapter as AC-E60HG or AC-E60AM AC. I tried a multi-purpose adapter I had laying around, but none of adapter ends fit. > >If you have an adapter laying around and want to get rid of it, I'd be glad to pay for shipping and take it off your hands.
