"Mr. Bogus"
This cable is readily available at Ratshack with a small adapter on the
end that flips up. The round one in my experience is for things like a
JB3 or most minidisc players and stuff. The square one you will see on
most Sony DAT home decks and home minidisc equipment. Let me know if
you need help finding this cable and I'll send you one.

The genius of America farm experts is very well demonstrated here: they can take a solution and divide it neatly into two problems." Wendell Berry

This is called a Toslink connector.

An optical minijack.

What you want is a Toslink to Toslink cable, and then
there are little adapters that plug on to convert to
optical minijack. This Radio Shack link would work:
http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2459820
There are certainly cheaper options, though. This page
from Sound Professionals has a variety of optical
digital cables with combinations of Toslink and mini
connectors and Toslink-to-mini adapters.

More Toslink info here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toslink
It refers to the minijack/plug as Mini-Toslink, though
I've never heard it called that.

It's important to note that the Mac towers (PowerMac and later, Mac
Pro) have full size optical ports. Other models have what looks like
a traditional 1/8 analog jack, but it doubles as an optical jack.
You'll need a mini Toslink adapter to connect it to a "regular"
Toslink cable.
