Date: Wed, 8 Feb 95 09:07:46 EST From: Bob Ramstadhowdy. i'm planning on having a DSD offering in the not too distant future. i am hoping to be in a position to begin taking orders around the end of March with kits shipped in July. (from experience, the manufacturers of the various DSD parts can take up to three months to fill my orders.)To: dat-heads@virginia.edu Subject: pending DSD offering
the DSD kit is being redesigned but won't change radically. the power supply and LED drivers will be improved. support will be provided for PCB mount RCA jacks, LEDs and switches, as well as for headers. PCB layout will be improved in general to make it easier to put the DSD in a chassis. (there may be an offering of chassis + PCB mount part kits as well.) minor functional improvements will also be made. complete details will be furnished when the kit announcement is made.
for now, i'd like to take a straw poll. the kits will most likely run around $150 (same as last time) and include virtually everything you need to get the kit up and running except for chassis and related hardware. (basically the same stuff included in previous kits.)
before i expend a lot of effort trying to put this thing together, i'd like to have an idea of how many people are interested. if you are fairly certain you'd purchase DSD kits in this time frame and at this price, send email to 'rramstad+dsd@nfic.com'. please tell me how many kits you are likely to buy.
i'd like to see an overall number of 100 or so from all of dat-heads, but will probably go through with it if people need at least 50 kits.
as always, the dsd information (from last time, naturally) is available via anonymous FTP at atd.ucar.edu, cd pub/dat-heads/dsd. please check this information out before asking me for more details about the kits or what the DSD is capable of doing / not doing. thanks!
